Slow-worms derail stations
A new rail link being constructed in Wales may not open in time, as two of the sites upon which stations are to be built have been discovered to home Slow-worms, which are protected by law.
As many of the Slow-worms as is possible will have to be relocated from the site, in order to comply with ecological conditions of the planning permission.

I found a snake in my compost heap and a baby snake in the garden is there anything I need to do? I would like to empty my compost heap too!
Hi Michael,
Your 'snake' is most likely to be a harmless Slow worm, which are legless lizards, commonly found in gardens and especially compost heaps. They are protected, completely harmless and great for your garden as they eat slugs.
You can remove compost from you heap, but please do so gently, using a garden fork to minimise the chance of harming these delightful animals.
